Shingle Roofing

Shingle roofing is typically made of asphalt or fiberglass and the most common brand names are GAF, CertainTeed, IKO and Owens Corning. Asphalt shingles come in three main materials: laminated (most common), dimensional (cut from long rolls of asphalt) and architectural shingles (made with real slate or wood, for example). The difference between shingle types doesn't affect installation but can significantly change your total roof cost because more expensive options will have a greater resale value. The biggest quality differences are durability — laminated is least durable and does not withstand high winds well; dimensional holds up better than laminate but still chipped fairly easily during hail storms; and architectural styles last the longest.

Metal Roofing

Metal roofs have proven to be an excellent option for homes or commercial buildings with a budget that won't allow the use of more expensive materials. Metal roofs offer tremendous benefits over other materials in their durability, longevity and energy efficiency. No matter which type of metal roofing is used, it will be able to withstand the elements for years to come.

Metal roofs are great insulators and help reduce heating costs in winter, HVAC system running more efficiently and cooler year round with less interior temperature fluctuations. With proper maintenance they will last upwards of 50 years or longer vs asphalt shingle 20-30 where vegetation shorts due to conductivity of metal versus asphalt shingles resistance so most property owners need not worry about needing to re-roof again for generations! (we have seen some homes that were installed in 1950s still standing on original roof even though it hasn't been maintained at all!) They just don't rot or deteriorate the way shingles do. Metal roofs can be installed over existing shingle roof so you keep using your existing siding w/o having to completely demolish it and rebuild! So if you are in good financial standing and new home in 15-20 years, your metal roof will still be with you for a long time! Metal roofs are eco-friendly, high recycled content (65% pure copper composition), environmentally safe and can provide you an extremely attractive home without spending $50k to rebuild.
